I want to use some of my first few checks to invest in the stock market, but I’m not sure exactly what goes on. I know stocks and stock prices are driven by supply and demand, but other than that, I’m clueless. I have a few questions, and I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
1. What are some of the basics of the stock market?
2. How do stocks effect taxes?
3. How do you "research" a company?
4. Anything else I should know?
I think that’s it. Does anyone know of any reliable books or websites where I can get more information on the background of the market? I’ve heard e*Trade is one of the best options to trade stocks and that they have tutorials. But I don’t know if that information is free or if I need to pay, and I don’t start my job until next week.
Thanks for any help!
Im a 20 year old college student. Before I begin, let me say that I do not have a job right now—I usually only work in summers. Anyways, I have always been interested in the stock market and investing (although its not my major *sighs*). I just opened a free checking account 2 days ago and put in 0–I dont really have anything off the top of my mind I need….so….
Since my money really isnt doing anything in my checking account I figured if I could maybe start out by buying a few stocks to see where it goes…..so where should I start?…..
I heard mutual funds are good b/c they basically do the investing for you…which is good b/c I dont have that much time, and I dont know that much about investing anyways.
On a side note…Im probably only going to start out buying a few stocks (no more than )……is it even worth it?….can I even find a mutual fund or something where I can start out investing tiny amounts of money like this??
PLEASE HELP!! IM SO CONFUSED!
Well I been into the stock market since 5th grade and watch CSBN almost everyday, and read about the business world a lot but I still don’t get the stock market. For example, how are do they get those figures on the graphs? I know it’s a representation for the company but not the company itself so how are these numbers made? Is it somebody’s job to make the graphs of a company go up and down or what?
I don’t want to follow somebody! I want to know why they make thoses investments and actually understand what’s going on, not follow pepole around in the dark!
